Thousands of children are involved in Michigan's court system due to abuse or neglect, child custody and child support matters, juvenile delinquency, and a variety of other legal issues. Regardless of the specific legal issue that brings a child into Michigan's court system, that child will be faced with a complex variety of legal and non-legal concerns and issues. Children need legal advocates who have a holistic understanding of a child's life, in addition to legal expertise. Children need social workers that understand how to work collaboratively with the courts. Preparing these professionals will better meet the needs of children for a safe, healthy and secure environment with a loving, lifetime family. The Chance at Childhood Program exists to help ensure that children involved in Michigan's court system are provided an effective, independent voice in court proceedings.
